What is ChatGPT?
An AI chatbot by OpenAI that can answer questions, write content, and assist with various tasks.
ChatGPT is an AI-powered chatbot developed by OpenAI. It uses a large language model (specifically GPT-3.5 or GPT-4) to understand and generate human-like text responses.
How ChatGPT Works
ChatGPT was trained on vast amounts of text data from the internet, books, and other sources. Through a process called "reinforcement learning from human feedback" (RLHF), it learned to generate helpful, safe, and accurate responses.
What Can ChatGPT Do?
- Answer questions on virtually any topic
- Write content including emails, essays, code, and creative writing
- Explain concepts in simple or complex terms
- Help with tasks like brainstorming, editing, and problem-solving
- Have conversations that feel natural and helpful
Limitations
ChatGPT has some important limitations to be aware of:
- Knowledge cutoff date (doesn't know recent events)
- Can sometimes produce incorrect information
- Cannot browse the internet (in the free version)
- No memory between conversations (unless using specific features)
